Toyota India has pulled the Land Cruiser and Prado models from its India lineup. The move comes ahead of the BS6 deadline. Both full-size premium SUVs came with large capacity diesel engines. Since the carmaker has no plans to update the two ageing model lines to meet BS6 norms, Toyota is likely to focus on Lexus. The Lexus LX is a Land Cruiser V8 sibling but is more expensive at Rs 2.33 crore. The Prado’s closest Lexus is the GX, but it is not sold in India.

Toyota launched a mid-life facelift version of Land Cruiser 200 in 2015 with minor changes made to the exterior and interior. On the outside, it gets additional elements such as a new hexagonal grille, LED headlamps, restyled tail-lights, and redesigned alloy wheels. In fact, the SUV looks even more imposing now with elevated horizontal character lines, new three-slat grill and chrome garnish that extends horizontally across the LED headlamps. Inside the feature list is par excellence and truly defines why this car is a luxury SUV. The high capacity 4.5 liters twin-turbo V8 diesel unit, carried over from the previous model makes robust power output and is linked to a six-speed automatic transmission. 

Priced at a jaw-dropping Rs 1.34 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi), Land Cruiser rivals high-priced competitors in the segment such as Land Rover Range Rover. In the last dose of the update, the premium SUV received minor cosmetic tweaks and additional kit. Mechanically it remains unchanged with same powerplant, transmission and four-wheel drive from the pre-facelifted.

Front profile sports a new three slat hexagonal grille flanked by the LED headlamps. On the side, it gets redesigned alloy wheels and rear section comes with reworked LED tail lights. Other bits such as elevated horizontal character lines and chrome garnish across the LED headlamps add more appeal to the SUV.
